Symposium Introduction
The main cause of air pollution - the burning of fossil fuels and
metallurgical production. If in the XIX and beginning of the twentieth century, arriving in
environment of the combustion products of coal and liquid fuel is almost completely
assimilated into the Earth's vegetation, at the present time, the content
combustion products is steadily increasing. From ovens, furnaces, exhaust pipes
cars in the air gets a number of pollutants. Among them
allocated sulfur dioxide - a poisonous gas, is easily soluble in water.
The concentration of sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere is particularly high in the vicinity
smelters. It causes destruction of chlorophyll, hypoplasia
pollen grains, drying and opadanie leaves and needles.
As a result of combustion of different fuels is emitted into the atmosphere annually
about 20 billion tons of carbon dioxide. Anthropogenic emissions of carbon
exceed the natural gas and now account for a large share of its
number, violate the transparency of the atmosphere, and hence its thermal
balance. Half the carbon dioxide formed during the combustion of fossil
fuel is absorbed by the ocean and green plants, half remains in
air. The content of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere gradually increases and for
past 100 years has increased by more than 10%. Carbon dioxide prevents
thermal radiation into space, making it a so-called
"Greenhouse effect", ie increase in average atmospheric temperature at
few degrees, which can cause melting of the glaciers of the polar regions,
sea-level rise, changing its salinity, temperature and
other adverse effects. Thus, changes in content
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has a considerable influence on the Earth's climate.
